Gardening can make the world a brighter place. With innovative and environmentally-conscious designs it can also make it a better place. Daniel Koch founded GrowSpace, where he and others teach people through workshops on how to turn unused spaces into indoor gardens and farms.
Not everybody has the means to create and maintain an indoor garden and GrowSpace understands this, by accommodating the regular people and helping them cultivate nature in their homes. Our interview with Daniel Koch is a personal look into why he came up with this idea and his spiritual outlook on the world.
DANIEL KOCH – GROWSPACE FOUNDER
How does it feel to have made a difference as such an influential person?
I don’t feel like I am such an influential person. At least no more influential than anyone else. I believe everyone has the power to be influential and everyone has something to offer the world. Me, I’m just doing what I can, when I can, however I can, for whoever I can… but It always feels good to be of service.
What is the most important thing for you to communicate and educate the world with?
Connection. At the moment there is so much disease and disharmony in the world and I truly feel this is a symptom of chronic dis-connection. We need to re-connect. Re-connect with ourselves and with others, with mother nature and our creator, and as a result, re-connect with our higher purpose.
What do you believe is your purpose?
To learn all there is to in this lifetime. To enjoy the beauty in each moment. To share the experience with others, to love fully, be open, happy and live a life of service.
How has your journey connected you more with the earth/nature?
It has made me realize that we are not separate from nature, but one with nature. We are nature and nature is us. I think the common misconception with the modern world is that we feel we are separate from nature, or even worse - greater than nature - which is a total illusion. For without nature there is no us. But without us there is still nature. Once we understand this we can become the student rather than a “perceived” master - and we have so much more to learn from Mother Nature, our greatest teacher.
What motivated you to embark on this journey?
A deep discomfort with the paradigm in which we currently live and a strong determination to develop and create a more symbiotic and harmonious lifestyle with nature.
If you had one wish what would it be?
That all beings be happy.
What is a quote you live by?
“Happiness is not a matter of good fortune or worldly possessions, it’s a mental attitude. It comes from appreciating the things we do have, instead of being miserable about the things we don’t have, it’s so simple, yet so hard for the human mind to comprehend.” - Unknown
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that, hate cannot drive out hatred, only love can do that.” - MLK Junior
Name the most spiritual place you’ve ever visited.
Uluru. It’s the place I am visiting right now. We have just journeyed to Alice Springs to create a bush medicine camp with the local indigenous people. It’s the beginning of a new dreaming, creating space where people can come together to learn, share and connect. The project is called The Revival and for more info visit: www.revivaltours.com.au
You’re so dedicated and work so hard, what is a way you recharge your soul?
Time in nature. She is the ultimate healer. Fresh air, clean drinking water, organic live plant based foods and plenty of sunshine.
I have also been extremely blessed with an amazing community that shows endless support, limitless love and a genuine care that re-charges any soul. So grateful to all my friends.
What is sacred to you?
Everything is sacred, Even the paradigm which makes you believe otherwise…
